Bought my first raw coin out of an auction.... worked out well. UPDATED W NEW PICS.

I won this ms 64 raw half dime from B&M, sent it in to NGC, and it came back a MS65. I have to say it was a lot of fun to make a coin. It worked out well this time, but raw coins still make me very nervous. I always wonder why they aren't already graded, especially in a major auction. BTW, the coin is MUCH prettier in person. Much more colorful with prooflike fields, and an incredible strike.

HERE ARE MY PICS OF THE COIN. In my pics you can see the real colors and get an idea of the coins prooflike fields.

I paid higher end 64 money, but certainly not 65 money.

Yup, the 37 is a PCGS Ms65. Good call from such a small pic. Here's a larger one.

Awesome coin....

Heres mine...it's in a 64 holder but I think it should be a 5. I think the toning is keeping it down the point.The spot on the cheek is just a glare from the holder.

Crazy, that RE half looks very PQ as Bustman says. Other than hidden hairlines it does look 65ish. Are there some horizontal lines just behind her cap at 2:00 or is that a holder "mirage?"

I keep saying that finding nicely toned RE's with technical surfaces in 63-66 grade is very tough. There aren't enough out there since they only made them a few short years.

Nice grab on that half dime Bustman.

I absolutely love everything about that coin! Wouldn't some, however, shy away from the off-center reverse? (that is, by the way, something I love about the coin.)

The coin is probably not off-center, just tilted in the holder. I see that often, especially with smaller coins in NGC holders.

BINGO! The coin is tilted in the holder AND I'm tilting the holder for the pic.
