  • I think I paid $25 for mine.

Then again, it was partially holed. And not the best of condition.

But, being dated 1819, it's my 3rd oldest US coin. First two being 1798, and 1805.

Without looking for variety strike weekness and the limitations of a picture I think the 1829 might slab with PCGS as AU50, then worth about $195. The 1831 looks to be a lower grade unless the variety is normally weakly struck, PCGS probably XF45 worth about $100. Pictures are often deceiving so I could be off a bit.

In my opinion most of the true AU Bust Halves "available for sale today" are already in slabs so buying raw and hoping to get them into a slab is a long shot. $200-300 Busties are not worth the hassle of resubmitting until the right slab is given, best let someone else get them into the holder before you buy. I would not consider buying a raw Bustie unless it was from one of the few specialists in the Bust series and they were confident the coin would slab, and I don't mean ANACS net grade.

    Edited:
    1829 looks to be O-116 now R3
    1831 O-102 R1
I have not changed my mind on grade. Would be interested to see what the five Bust Halves grade at PCGS.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

the 1st coin is an easy au-55+, the 2nd is au-50+. $520 for the pair is a GOOD DEAL. @ that price, buy every 1 you can!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!

    Go with Karl.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
