It blows my mind that proofs in the late 1800's are so darn cheap...

Sure, I know it's all got to do with demand. But man, with the it's amazing to me that the market is so week with respect to the mintage/pops.

The smaller coins do seem cheap.

It is because proofs are not REAL coins. Yeh you can spend proofs but you can also drive a Zamboni.

soon this sleeping giant will awaken and explode in the marketplace like an overstuffed creme filled donut that has had its contents expanded due to the heat of the market

even the smaller proof coins of the later 1800's or earlier even 1900-1915

if wonderfully deeply mirrored with blast flash and cameo and/or great color are great coins and full of history value opportunity and beauty

all these coins have a fundemential reason to rise in value

true cavier of the mintmasters art

    or crappy classic proofs

  • I love them. With total mintages in the thousands, sometimes even less than 1,000 there aren't that many to go around. These coins have excellent strike with full details. These are the way the coins were intended by the designers to look.
  • Early proofs rule!!! They are true a collector's coin -- not pocket change! You really cant monkey around with one without making it obvious. Original proofs in PR64+ are getting harder and harder to find. With low mintages and an increasing demand, I just dont see how you can lose with an early proof.

I've been looking for a 1911 PCGS PR64-66 Barber dime and cant find one. There are top pops, but other than that ziltch!
