1878-S Toned Morgan Dollar

I bought this raw coin for $70 based on a crappy scan that had "potential". With the coin in hand, and somewhat better pics attached below, do you think I did OK, or did I get hosed?
The first two are head-on shots, the second two are tilted.

That coin is awesome. The only person who got hosed was the seller.
Beautiful coin. You did very well IMO. Anytime you get tired of the coin, drop me a PM.
<< <i>I think your coin is great. I really do, but the PCGS price list claims I can get a 63PL for $70. A nice white one would appeal to me, personally more than a raw toner. JMO >>
The PCGS price guide is way out of date on DMPLs. You couldn't touch a 78-S DMPL for double the price quoted.

I'm waiting for a coin I picked off of Ebay last week. Can't wait to see it.

<< <i>You did fine. It has a bit of "fog" to it perhaps from dirt/contamination. I'd give it a light bath in 99.9% isopropal alcohol to protect it from any future problems. It clearly is NT based on the color differentiation shown on, verses in, the P of "Pluribus" for example. It also has a fair shot at an MS 64 or 65 at NGC (also maybe a star--why I say NGC), which would make it a multiple in value of what you paid, if you ever auction/sell/trade it. >>
Morganut, the "fog" on the tilted pictures is likely glare from the holder (intercept shield) -- I should have photgraphed it "naked" but did not want to fool with it out of the holder. However, you bring up a good point -- is it a good idea to "stabilize" toned silver coins with alcohol before submitting to a TPG? Any thoughts on this from toned Morgan collectors?
I stay away from acetone, as it seems to affect the toning a little bit on crap coins I experiemented with.
Looking for input on dipping toned coins in iso alcohol per the post above.
Upon thinking about it further, my feeling is the risk of ruining the toning might be higher than the possibility the coin "turns in the holder".
You should be dancing after that purchase!! Awesome coin!
