NGC Submission Status--what does "quality control" mean?

gyocomgdgyocomgd Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭
When checking the status of my submission, I've noted three stages (so far). "Scheduled for grading," "Grading" and "Quality control." The last one is making me nervous. Anyone know what it means? I don't want to hassle them with a phone call.
I'll appreciate an answer from anyone except that Russ guy, who delights in giving answers like, "It means they're all counterfeit."

NGC Quality Control means that your coins are in the slabbing room. They have been graded, now they are being sealed in the slab.

I think that means they are in the process of slabbing it.
  • Means you got a couple of more days to wait -- unfortunately!!!

Let us know the grades when you get them and whether it is what you expected.

On the same topic, what does it mean when you go from quality control back to grading? A recent submission went from "QC" to back to grading and now its back to "QC".

    Step--

My understanding is that the graders get one last "look" at the coin before it goes out the door to make sure the label is right, etc.

It means they are at NCS right now to remove any and all toning, then they'll seal it in a slab where it will remain bright and white forever! Quality control baby!

You guys are making me nervous.

On March 10th I sent in a bunch across the street for the 21 day economy service. I was chit chatting with the dealer this last weekend and he suggested that he'd call them this morning. Well ...not that I really care when they come back...but they said-"they were a little backed up"

March 10th to April 25th is not 21 days, why would they call it "21 day economy service"? In fact why do they bother to insert the word service?
    Have a nice day

It means once you submitted a 1979 type 2 proof set, they'll be changing it to a type 1 before shipping it out image

Seems to apply here as well. image

My guess is that if the coins go back from QC to Grading again, it likely means the Finalizer did not agree with the opinions and is sending it back in. Maybe Coinguy1 can chime in on this, it's my understanding he's a former finalizer for NGC.

I would be very interested to hear some of Mr. Felds stories. Sanitized, of course.
    Have a nice day
