The Stacks May 2005 auction is now online

These guys seem to bring a lot of good stuff out of the woodwork. I would never bid because most of it is raw and I am a wannabe collector. I found this coin to be a little humerous, though. Supposedly it is a rare date, but as the description said, it has seen better days.

  • How come Stacks "search" doesn't get you anywhere near the results you need?

You are just a wannabe collector Longacre? That's ok and news to me as you are offering infinitely more here by the in depth questions you ask than a lot of people do and this post alerting people to one of the oldest rare coin dealers and auctioneers in the world, to which most on this message board don't even seem to be aware of , is a big help to anyone who is interested in real Numismatics.

I won these at the last Stacks/Coin Galleries sale for inclusion in my world coin inventory, Lot 0314 and Lot 0306, two Vatican gold coins which will be sent off to slabland in tomorrows express mail. I'll post pics here later if my wife gets the time to scan these two.

    What's Stack's?

Actually, the first gold coin in my collection was purchased at Stack's as a reward for an academic accomplishment from my father. In 1977, at the age of (almost) twelve, I was the proud owner of this (below) 1890 quarter eagle. It was many years before I added a second gold coin to my collection, and I have since added a few more.

I've been a winner in several Stack's sales over the years, but I do have a question about a certain pic in this sale. What's with the reverse? It almost looks photoshoped/blurred.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
