Should I chance my first negative feedback over this ?

The winner of THIS auction ( fb4817 )never contacted me about payment...even after reminders.

So on the 10th day (as my auction terms state) I filed unpaid item dispute. Here is the text of that dispute:

eBay Apr-22-05 at 02:43:35 PDT

An Unpaid Item dispute has been opened for the following item: ANACS 1920 STANDING LIBERTY QUARTER MS-62 (#3968475703)
Reason given for Unpaid Item: The buyer has not paid for the item.
Buyer actions reported by seller: The buyer has not responded.

I do sincerely apologize, but I will not be able to purchase your wonderful item, but I thought that
you had paypal, and that was the only way I could pay, but now all of my credit cards, and accounts
are now closed.. if you must give me a bad report I understand

I do accept paypal, and always have. You have NEVER contacted me.

If your accounts are closed...The why are you bidding on new items?

He is now bidding on THESE auctions. image

He's definitely on his way to a neg, but I'd give it a little more time. He has some strong purchases in his history that were paid for, so I'm not thinking complete deadbeat, maybe just a flake. Wait and see what his response is to your last post in the dispute console.

If he doesn't come through a neg should be given. It's the only way to police the system. I just gave out my 3rd and 4th negs ever this past week. The seller deserved them as they have a pattern of hype and deceit that needs to be publicized. But of course I'll get 2 in return.

He has bid on 54 coins in last month after being registered for 1 month. So ---to me---he looks like someone with quite a bit of experience under a different ebay name. And he appears to be kind of bluffing with his contact to you--like this is not the first time this has happened to him. IMHO, newbies are just not this aggresive a bidder and do not offer you a neutral position re negs. IMHO he has figured out how to re reg with a new ID, so he doesn't care about negs.

This is not the first time at the rodeo for this boy.
    Have a nice day

I think giving a neg to a buyer is pointless. It doesn't stop anybody from selling to them.

What people don't do is file unpaid items - 3 of those and they are out.

I've seen people with a bunch of negs for non-payment still registered. Sellers need to use the unpaid item process instead!

I was about to say "Let it slide..." right up until the point where you showed he's bidding on other items. Neg him!

I was going to suggest a neutral until you pointed out he is still bidding on other items. I'd get ready to fire off a NEG if I were you.

  • I recently left a "buyer" a neg, now I am waiting for the obligatory retailiation. No other business has to operate under this sword of damacles. Let Ebay handle it. As Bruce Kahn would say....F...em

I just left 2 seller negs and feel good about it. Unfortunately it will cost me 2 negs in return. Now my FB rating is down to about 94%.....junk rating. But ethics come first. Damn the torpdoes, full negative feedbacks ahead...........

I'm planning on "buying" one of your coins today, and then stiffing you...so if you want to hold off, you can neg me instead image

    Neg him

When you NEG him, list out the reasons why. When I go through feedback for someone with negatives, i look for consistency in the NEGS. If they are do not pay, no contact etc, then I might cancel the persons bids. I will also contact someone who has bid on an auction of mine with consistent negative feedback and ask some questions about intent to purchase. If they do not reply, then I block them and cancel their bids.

Doesn't always wrok, as BIN and bidding at the end are impossible to monitor.

If the buyer NEGS you back, you get a chance for reply, and you simply state the facts. Other buyers will see that.

    Good Luck!

  • I voted in the poll to neg him because he bid on items after bailing on your auction.
After seeing his lowball bids I think he may just be looking to flip some coins to get
out of a hole. I would leave neutral or nothing.

    EDIT TO ADD:
The only items he bid on since contacting you were the items lost after he bid much
    lower then the final bid.
  • Since your auction, he has won 8 auctions worth $451.42

After seeing this I change my vote to give him a NEGATIVE!image

    Negs don't hurt buyers.

    Negs do hurt sellers.

That equation should fit into your calculations before doing anything.

Negs do hurt sellers if they don't have tons of feedback. But if you neg a seller with thousands of feedbacks, a few more negs make little difference. In this case I have a seller with a 99.8% FB rating and most everyone seems to play along and give the seller pos FB on overhyped slabbed coins. I even had a former buyer write me that said seller was reported by him to authorities in Illinois. The seller gave me retaliatory neg FB claiming the coins were beautiful and I was of course....wrong. Now with 99.7% FB the seller will continue on his tried and true ways.

Definitely not. After nearly 7 years and 800 positives on ebay, nearly all from sales, I received my first negative. Whether real or imagined, I believe it had an immediate and noticeable effect on my listings. I even had a request to comment on the feedback, as I have not responded yet. So as a seller, I would say let it go and block this guy. As for the negative, I was wondering if anyone has had an experience with ebay in an attempt to have a negative removed. Besides the fact that the allegations are simply untrue, I believe that
ebay's policy of not mentioning an investigation was violated. I made the request for removal on those grounds, but have had no respnse from ebay - yes/no/maybe/tell us more- nothing. To further pursue this, is there an email address which allows more than a single sentence or a mailing address to which I can send copies of email correspondence supporting my rebuttal? For any that wish to read the neg, my user name on ebay is the same as here.
    Thanks, Mark

At this point, I would let it go. The last auction that he bid in closed 11 days ago. Just file the NPB and get your fees back. He will probably get NARU'ed soon anyhow.
