Shrink wrap rolls

My wife came home from the bank with three rolls of nickels, they were shrink wrapped. Never seen that before, where do they come from. They were all B.U. keelboats and very hard to unwrap...........

Some banks wrap them that way. I have two rolls of Alabama state quarters which came that way. I suspect paper wrappers are on the way out.

Those aren't necessarily circs. I got a bunch of peace medal rolls that way very early in the release of that issue. I believe them to be strictly unc.

It might not be the bank that rolled them... but dependant on the armored car company used for deliveries... the Mint sends the coins to the Federal Reserve banks in bags. The armored car companies then roll the coins and deliver them to the banks...

Are the banks getting bags and then rolling them. The coins were all keelboats (with a lotta hits) but very bright. also is there an easy way to open them.....

No. No they aren't.

My local BankOfAmerica gets them that way and I would bet you a 1894-S dime that there isn't a circ coin in the bunch when they come to me as new that way.
Now, some do have the shrinkwrapped circ coins, but you really shouldn't generalize without knowing.

Yep....My coin dealer was selling the Bison nickels (shrinked wrapped) from a box of Brinks!

I have had the same experience as Bochiman at B of A. I picked up a couple hundred dollars worth of the California Quarter when they got them in, all BU in the shrinkwrap, also picked up a few rolls of the new nickels all BU , though they look as though the bounced there way from the mint to the bank ( very baggy). It is hit and miss you just have to find someone in your branch to give you a heads up on the shipments.

As I said... it's the Armored Car companies that roll them, unless they bank gets them in from the public... which isn't likely with such a new issue...

think thats bad...up North...Canada they have plastic little rolls that open in the middle...very strange

I get these every time I get the new quarters, They also do this with the new nickels. They come from the Federal reserve that way. ( Federal reserve is 2 blocks away and they (the bank) get their order every Thursday. I slit opon the rolls and put them in square plastic tubes......All UNCs............Rick

I also get unopened boxes from the federal reserve that are shrink wraped. box is printed with "NEW! IMPROVED PLASTIC WRAPPERS. They also re-wrap circ coins, sometimes mixing in current.
