<< <i>I'd like to know how to make those deep purples show up. I hae a couple of coins like that but always come out black/dark >>
It's VERY easy...send them to Russ and have him image them for you.

<< <i>Awesome giveaway! Count me in!!! >>
Nice try Xpipe.
<< <i>Seriously, I would like to know how those colors show up as well. Also, any estimate on the amount of time the toning takes? >>
Longacre...Alot of people tried and all have failed....Russ is the only one who could image those colors.

<< <i>To me, it looks like the original pic was very light and the colors were made deeper via software; thus explaining why the background also has a purple hue. >>
There was no color manipulation whatsoever. The only thing done in software was cropping and resizing, and lightening about 10% because it was too dark. In fact, the color is better in-hand. The purple hue on the white slab is caused by the camera spreading the color off the coin. If the coin were white and shot under the same conditions, the slab would be white.

This one took about 20 shots to come up with one that was close. NGC slabs are much more difficult than PCGS or ANACS.

Steve27...No this is what the coin looks like "in hand".

Who are the others? In the interest of fairness, I vote that the coin be shipped to K6AZ, poorguy, mgoodm3, cosmicdebris (and probably some others I've missed) and have the showdown voted for on the forum.
Also, nice pics, Russ, and a really nice looking coin, fivecents.

I am not about to name the people who failed at imaging this coin, that would not be fair to them.
As for sending this coin to these other (great) coin photograhers on the forum.......the image is perfect ,so if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Thanks for the compliments David. And as you said, you left a few out like Jeremy.
I've always thought it would be neat to have a showdown like you outlined. Do a round robin around the country via mail and then have everyone post the images of the same coin for the contest. I think it would be a lot of fun.
