Can't help you since I've never done it, but... do you really want most people to think you're a scammer by keeping bidders private?
There may be legitimate reasons for it at times...but for the most part, I think most people think the primary reason for private auctions is to perpetrate a scam.
As you mentioned most of the time it's not a good idea, but there are times, such as high-value items, when it may be appropriate. Can anyone help with this?
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."
I have done a few private auctions on Ebay. I was tired of my underbidders getting slammed with bogus second chance offers. The auctions did ok, but I am sure that it didn't help things. On the pictures and details page, there is an option for private auction, just to the right of the auction duration option.
I don't know how I'm sure once they have your ebay name getting your e-mail address isn't to hard then they send you an e-mail that does look legit but the one I received the coin didn't make reserve and the e-mail said the winning bidder backed out. It was a bluemoon auction and he has had to make all his auctions private because his bidders were getting bombarded
Why not put smoething in your auction text that says "I never send out second chance offers. If you get one, it's not from me. Please forward any second chance offers you recieve to spoof@ebay.com"?
