Counterfiet Coin
Ok, fleebay again. I was the high bidder and won an apparent counterfiet coin. I stumbled on the auction and didnt look hard at the lousy pics. It had a few minutes to go before end and was getting a good deal (should have been the first sign). But I let the good deal hook me and bid. Then as I always do immediatley paid with paypal after the auction.
Now after thinking about the coin, I thought I had better look closer. After closer inspection, I am certain its counterfiet after a minor bit of research.
Contacted the seller and asked for a better obverse, also included links to a copy and a genuine coin.
Requested the seller decide if they could determine if it was a copy or a real coin, based on my links provided.
Also suggested he send it to anacs, and I would pay all expenses if it came back genuine.
Now my question is, when should I request my money back from paypal. As soon as possible or wait until he responds.
I was foolish but want this to be a learning tool for everyone. Learn from your mistakes thats whats important.

If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?

<< <i>First of all, why do you think the coin is counterfiet? >>
IMO, it's pretty obvious. Or is this question a learning tool for the original poster?
Seated Dollars, like Trade Dollars, are so heavily faked that I don't think I'd ever buy one raw.
Then again, why was the coin shot at the angle? Perhaps to conceal the phony date?
Thats what made me think its phony.
The date looks all to similiar to this coin

<< <i>Look at the six closley, it doesn't curl like it should. The four looks fishy, but it harder to tell from the angle.

Yes, the date is very obviously not the style used by the Mint.
There are other diagnostics, but this one is so obvious by quick inspection that really, no further diagnosis is needed.

<< <i>Never ever buy a raw key coin or one type that is countefeited on eBay because there is a 100% chance it's no good. The odds are not in the buyers favor..... >>
I'd say 99.5%.
Not to be mean, but only buy coins that are within your level of understanding. This will keep you from buying overgraded, fake, or low for the grade coins.

<< <i>Try to get your money back on this coin as soon as possible. This is an obvious fake. They style of the date is completely wrong for any seated dollar. Plus there are extra lumps of metal around the stars. I am certain if you weigh it, it would be wrong as well.

My thoughts exactly. I don't even know seated dollars and can tell that's an obvious fake.

I was fooled at a cursory glance of the bad pics. After winning I remembered the too good to be true motto. So I looked harder, I blew up the pics and sure enuff, it was a fake.
Good news is the seller has offered a refund if it is fake.

The is no doubt, the coin is fake. Get your money refunded ASAP. Don't bother with receiving the coin just to return it.
Sorry to say that most of the raw Seated dollars on ebay are counterfeits just like this one.
