it's nearly impossible to get feedback here, especially if you are asking questions about moderns. I have heard many say "we'll that's not everyone area of interest." But there certainly doesnt seem to be a shortage of opinions around here. I know others have posted similar threads, I rememebr someone writing "a regular can post about a fart and get 25 responses." How come so many questions go with out a single response?

Multiple reasons, but one very good explanation is a vague title, including the one for this thread.

Look, there are plenty of modern collectors and plenty of non-modern collectors. There are oldbies, newbies, and inbetweenies. There are times that the board is active and times that the board is very slow (like right now). There are many times that a very good question is posed that no one knows the answer and it slips off the front page into obscurity. There are times when an inane thread gets hundreds of posts. Overall, one generally gets out of it what one puts into it. This is a message board community, not a full-time job, for most of us. I try to help out when I can, but I, and others, are under no obligation to make sure all posts get answered. And since no one person is responsible, there are times that very good posts do not get an equally good response.

My suggestion: if you have what you think is an interesting point to make and it gets no response, reword it, retitle it, and post it at a different time of the day or different day of the week, when the audience might be different.

Some folks will only chime in when they have something useful to contribute. If someone asks me a question on Winged Liberty Dimes, I just sit back and read as I know very little about them. It is important that folks only post on what they believe is correct. Sometimes it is merely a matter of opinion, so it is ok to chime in. Basically folks don't answer because they can't answer.

I certainly do appreciate the input, and your points all make good sense. I certainly don't expect numerous posts to questions about, say Sackies, but I have posted numerous times, at numerous periods of the day and seldom get more than a respose or two. Just seems like the "regulars" always get responses, and people relatively new seem not to get a s many.....this is not a statement of fact, just an opinion.

I have also seen numerous posts titled in a vague way, that get plenty of resposnes. Maybe I just need to build a bridge and get over it.

It would also be good to get the word "Moderns", in your Title, along with other descriptive information. That way when "Modern" collectors are seaching the threads, your's will stand out. In addition, if they do a seach on "Moderns", your thread will also come up. I collect Barber quarters and halves, and this logic seems to work very well for me. Good luck.

There's a simple solution. Regardless of the topic, just work the word "Legend" in to the title.

Other keywords work as well.

Example:

Title: Did Legend screw the Wannabe who purchased this Eliasberg DMPL Morgan or was it Heritage who got screwed?

Key pointers:

1. Legend mentioned--check.
2. Wannabe mentioned-check.
3. Heritage mentioned-check.
4. Two parties getting screwed--check twice.
5. Eliasberg mentioned-check.
6. Morgan mentioned-check.
7. DMPL (or any arcane abbreviation)-check. Feel free to substitute AT, OT, NT, AH, PL, NGC, PCGS, NASA, SS, etc.

Then in the body, you can type whatever gibberish you want, and I can guarantee that 95% of the membership will read it and many will respond.

I believe this is true for many, and is really more of a perception than a reality. You will also hear some lament the fact that every time they respond to a thread it stops dead. The alternative is that farts are more interesting than the topics people are posting, which lets be honest, is sometimes true.

Something that may help is to ask a direct question, it makes it easier to answer. A thread that says for example "Has this been cleaned?" is likely going to get more response than one that says "Any thoughts on this coin?".

Another tip: If one of your questions sinks without being answered, hit the "today" link (upper right hand of the page) find your question, click on it, and ttt it, perhaps with a clarifying comment.

If will get answered, especially if you ttt it in the early to mid evening!
