How is the ANA's periodical "The Numismatist"?

as far as being an "important for the hobby" periodical?

I find it an interesting read. A variety of topics are covered so something to be learned for everyone.

The show schedule is a bit out of sync, but overall a timely publication.

I am not sure I would rate it as "important for the hobby" as there are other periodicals out there.

It is part of the benefits of membership, an excellent value in my opinion, in the ANA.

It is as timely as a monthly publication can be, in these days of instant everything.

I would urge all to join, if not already members.

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

I think it is a great magazine, and you should definitely consider joining the ANA. There are other benefits as well, such as the lending library.

  • Meh... there's occasionally something of interest to me, but rarely... I personally prefer reading the John Reich Journal image

I like it, although it rarely covers coins that are part of my collecting interests.

  • I use it as address book for dealers. I can always find Dale Williams on pg 7. Seiously, the magazine is great. I haven't found a disappointing issue in 2 years.

Agreed. It's a screaming steal for the peanuts membership of $33 a year.
