A very bad bidder--one to definitely block! Don't sell to ctkiev9
I gave a very nice York to Russ to sell for me and this buyer has totally jerked us around. I feel bad for Russ because he negged the guy and this idiot has now negged him back. I admire Russ for his excellent auction for this coin and also for doing his duty to warn others about this non-paying bidder at the risk of his feed back rating. Russ waited patiently for this scumbag to pay for over a month and finally ctkiev9 sends a bad check

Here's the scenario with this deadbeat:
2.19.05: Auction closes at $278 ($282.95 with shipping).
2.26.05: Bidder finally goes thru checkout saying he's sending a personal check.
3.07.05: No check has arrived, so I send followup invoice.
3.13.05: Still no check has arrived, so I filed an Unpaid Item Dispute.
3.13.05: Bidder responds to Unpaid Item Dispute saying payment is being sent that day.
3.17.05: Bidder responds again to Unpaid Item Dispute saying "Payment has been sent!"
3.22.05: Payment arrives, postmarked 3.19.05.
I always try to verify larger checks prior to deposit. In this case, that was easy because the bidder's check was drawn on the same bank where I have my own account (BOFA). Check is NSF, of course.
Now, anybody who's dealt with me knows that I'm pretty easy to get along with. I'll generally bend over backwards for my customers. If this guy would have just been up front and said he stretched a little too far and couldn't pay, I'd have had no problem letting him out of the deal and moving on. I've done it before. But, I will not tolerate liars, and I'm even less tolerant of thieves.
So, I would suggest that anybody selling coins on eBay should block ctkiev9, and save yourself a potential headache.

Blocked!
The name is LEE!
<< <i>Russ, can you get the neg removed with proof of the bad check? >>
Unfortunately, no. There are only a couple categories for feedback removal, and this isn't one of them. In fact, a bidder can send no payment at all, post a completely bogus neg and the seller is stuck with it. I know, because it happened to me (it's one of my other negs).
It's okay. I figured the guy would retaliate, but I decided I could afford the hit if that's what it took to warn others.

As an aside, I saw this commercial the other day for one of those payday loan places....they have this guy talking about how great it was he got this payday loan. He says his alternative would be to bounce checks, but he wouldn't want to do that because it would get expensive after a while.
Now, I am not one of the high horses from the open forum that tells everybody how to live their life and why they are stupid, but to me, the reason not to write bad checks would include 1) It is wrong 2) It is illegal and I think they would be somewhere above "it gets expensive." Just an aside.
My coin didn't show up on his bidding history?

Still waiting....but, after seeing this thread, I DID block him from bidding on any more that I have up!

Brian,
If his check shows up, make sure you verify funds BEFORE you deposit it so you don't get stuck with bounced check fees.
Edited to add: It doesn't show up in the history because it's over 30 days ago.

Blocked. Thank you for sharing the info.
Thanks for the "heads up" on the rubber check. PayPal and eBay fees take enough out.....last thing
I need would be bank (NSF) fees too!

my checking account is set up so that I rarely have more than $100 in it - but have attached a linr of crediit that plugs in multiples of $100 whenever needed
you should send his check through - he will get stuck for $30 NSF if funds not available - just don't send coin for a long time - even if check clears - if it does not clear, send it through again a couple weeks after yu get it back

<< <i>what if the guy has a line of credit attached to his checking account? >>
He doesn't. The account was not flagged with either a credit line or overdraft protection.
<< <i>you should send his check through - he will get stuck for $30 NSF if funds not available >>
And, I would get stuck with an $18 fee.

Looking at the feedback exchange, Russ comes out smelling like a rose, and the bidder comes out smelling like a giant turd.

Now that's a nicely put reply.

But, even so, I would deposit it. Then when it is returned as NSF, contact his local police department and district attorney's office. Tell them that the guy is passing rubber checks in the HUNDREDS! Get the guy a few months in jail. And then get him civilly with a breach of contract suit in small claims. May seem like alot of trouble, but proaction is more effective than reaction. Best of luck!

Brian,
Did he pay you for the commem he won? If not, have you filed a NPB on him? One more and the loser is off eBay.

What Russ said, repeated for emphasis. It's appalling the number of eBayers out there who have a bunch of negs, yet are still on the loose. Sellers got to do the NPB/FVF procedure -- it only takes three of these to NARU someone. You can neg all you want, but they don't get auto-NARU'd until they get to -4 total feedback.
No,...not yet. I just filed the Unpaid Item complaint. I think I have to wait 8 days before I can
close it with a strike against him?
Brian
Bad biidders like this will be NARU'd very soon IMO.

After filing an unpaid item report with eBay on Tuesday, I got an email that after noon from Chis (ctkiev9),
saying that he had mailed the check last week. Later Weds. night I got this message from him:
Dear gandyjai,
I see the check I sent you for this coin has cleared my bank, when you confirm that it has cleard ,would you send positive feedback for my ebay...thanks,chris
Talk about ballsie!
As soon as my blood pressure goes back down and I can think straight.....I'll attempt to formulate some kind of reply that is
somewhat civil. I have finally run into a real azhole that I know will leave a neg that I don't deserve.
I can't wait to be strke 3!

Yeah, he responds real quick when the report is filed, then keeps stringing it along. He negged the second seller with a copy and paste of the neg he hit me with. This loser is a real piece of work.

Thanks for the warnings Russ, BigE, et al. Sorry this guy has hurt your reputations, but because of you and this thread he WILL NOT "work" here. Info very much appreciated.
and supposedly he got his 3rd strike.
Hopefully this loser will be yanked.

When someone gets what is clearly a retaliatory neg from a scamming seller or deadbeat buyer, it's not a black mark on your reputation. It's a badge of honor and I give it the weight of ten positives if the circumstances make this clear.
<< <i>Looks like I'll get my first negative when he fires back.... >>
Just respond that it's a retaliatory negative from a deadbeat bidder. No caps, or yelling. Just a calm response. And, thanks for having the stones to give the loser what he deserves. A lot of sellers are more concerned about their feedback than they are about doing the right thing.
Who knows? Maybe the punk will get NARUed before he gets a chance to fire back.
