Question about return receipts when mailing coins

My normal practice when I sell something on Ebay is to allow for a full return if I am notified within three days of the person's receipt of my coin/package. I send everything with a postal service return receipt.

Isn't it normal practice for the return receipt to come back to me with some sort of signature (I think the mailman signs it) AND the date that the package was delivered? These two items are clearly denoted in the "Complete this Section on Delivery" section of the return receipt. Nine times out of 10 I get the return receipt back WITHOUT a signature and WITHOUT a delivery date. This totally defeats the purpose of sending something return receipt (I think it costs me $1.75 or something like that). Does anyone know the standard postal procedure for return receipts? Thanks.

    I get stuff all the time in my po box that needed a signature on the return receipt, but that I did not sign for. They must figure that since they know they put it in there, that's good enough. But if you pay for it, it ought to get signed. Could cause a lot of problems if the recipient falsely claimed they never got it.

    Next time you make a trip to the post office take a few examples with you and ask your questions. If the clerk can't give you an answer ask to see a supervisor. My understanding is that a signature is required by the person who receives the package at the address you have mailed it to.

    You may want to check into Delivery Confirmation. I believe it costs only 90 cents compared to the $1.75 you are paying now plus you can track it online at usps.com.

    I work for the post office and im not sure on the policy for that but, I would like to make a suggestion for all of you that do mail coins threw the post office. Please do not mail over 300 coins in a small box they can still bust and the coins go everywhere. please put them in a larger box!

    I recently send $14,000 worth of coins, Registered, with a restricted delivery and return receipt. The carrier delivered the package to the buyers wife and I never got the return receipt. Fortunatly the buyer aknowledeged receipt.
