How does one get rid of the white residue left on a coins surface after the dip is done on a morgan dollar?

Usually, you can't. What you described sounds like toning/staining that was into the metal and which often leaves permanent remnants after a dipping.

Thanks MArk, This is one of those rare cases where the dip improved the coin. I left the toning on the reverse which looks ok

Prior to dipping, one must question if said coin is a good candidate for dipping. Any toning can be etched into the surface of said coin, and in turn, the toning hides the etching. Knowing this, one must ask that simple question, "Why am I dipping this coin?" . A suggestion once arose, if you don't want a coin with toning, why not sell the toned coin and purchase a non toned one. This way, no further damage will come to a coin due to someone that is uneducated in the way of dipping.

My goal is to acquire only coins that fit into my collection, if one of them should change over time, I sell/trade/give it away and replace it as I don't want to cause any more damage to the coin. Keep in mind, one mans trash is another mans treasure. The unappealing toning to you may be beautiful to someone else.

This is the key to all dipping issues with a coin. You have to find a good candidate. I learned that by getting a bunch of common junk 60s silver coins and experimenting to learn.
