The picture is too small for me to make out the detail. The picture is that of an 1860 Clark Gruber $20 gold coin, a popular territorial piece, likely made from gold found in the Rockies. If authentic, it is quite valuable. "R" might mean replica, but I admittedly do not see it on your small photo.
There is an R at the bottom center of the obverse. R stands for "restrike", in which it was restruck from the original dies in the 1950s. If you check this link, scroll to the bottom and you see the story. He says even the restrikes are rare, but I wonder what the value is of them. Lord, I really have no story behind my icon; I just thought it looked cool.
