How do the Mint Registry Sets score?

If that's even what you call them...

If someone's got say... an 1950 Mint Set that they're putting in the registry set, first of all, what's it called? image.

Second, if you have the ENTIRE set in say... XF condition and someone has three coins in MS, does theirs show up as a "better"(Higher scoring) set?

    First of all, the Registry Mint Sets are listed as exactly that...Mint Sets...for the given year.
    The coins do not have to come from the same original mint set.
    They only have to be certified and be of the proper denominations, and year, to be added to a particular set.

    Yes, the MS coins would give a higher rating than the AU coins.

    I was going to make a 1916 Mint Set, but it'd kind of irritate me if I had 100% and the gentleman with less coins would be above me image.

    Daniel,

    If you have the ENTIRE set and the other person only has 3 coins, even though they are higher than yours, you should actually be ranked ahead of them.

    Go look in some other sets. You will see what I mean.

    There is: Weighted GPA/% Complete/Set Rating.

    In the 1955 mint set that NumisMe linked (killer set at #1 btw!!!!), take a look at the rankings. You will see that there are sets ranked higher with a LOWER Weighted GPA. It goes by the % Complete, then by the Weighted GPA.

    I am sure there are those that know more about the registry than I do (like, 90% of the posters here! image ), but I have seen it over and over where lesser coins, at a higher grade, come in lower on the rankings than a more complete set.

    Ron is absolutely correct, and I'm sorry I failed to point that out before. A complete set, no matter what the GPA will always be ranked higher than any incomplete set. Sorry for the confusion.

    I wish everyone would attach pics to their coins in their registry sets... or at least the ones they they are good. Most don't. By the way... not always true that an incomplete set is rated below one that is complete.

    No worries on GPA anyways, I intend on having that top pop 16-D anyways!
