The saga of the toilet seat continues...question

The plan was to attach it to the bathroom, but I WILL PROBABLY just leave it in the box. My question is..This was given to a former congressman from Pa. If I got a letter from his wife (seller) and kept it with the item do you think the political/Historical provenance as it were would make it worh more later on. I was going to email the seller to see if that would be possible.

AND THIS IS THE LIST OF COINS THAT A FRIEND OF MINE WAS ABLE TO MAKE OUT OF THE PICTURE

1 Peace Dollar
2 Franklin Halves
10 Kennedy Halves
1 Standing Liberty Quarter
9 Washington Quarters
2 Winged Liberty Dimes
11 Roosevelt Dimes
4 Indian Head/Buffalo Nickels
10 Jefferson Nickels
61 Lincoln Cents

  • No, it is unused, i will probably keep it that way, I was hoping to get a letter from the congressmans wife but received a reply today that she didnt want to because she didn't understand what i wanted. it went on to say that she was in her 80's. So I asked the seller who said she has known the family for many years if she can send a letter with any info about the item, who, why , when where and how it came into his possesion. image
  • I suspect that most people wont discuss the origin or provenence of theyre TOILET SEATS !

If he was not famous, I wouldn't think it would be wirth any more. It may ne worth more to someone who lives in the area that the congressman respresents.

Well I would think you belive it is worth something, right ? or you would not have bid it. With any type of papers (no pun intended) that the wife provides you may find soneone to sell it to for a profit, I take it the coins have no real vaule. And if you find it of interest keep it.

Don't bother getting the letter. Unless you are into the the political connection for your own interests, it's not worth it just to resell the thing on eBay to make more than you paid for it.

Last Fall, I found a Christmas gift book (about Government) from an Oklahoma Senator, W.B Pine 1921 (I think that was the date) at a yard sale in a box of old books for $1 each. It had a signed letter as the first page and a leather binding. Real treasure right? Wrong. I put it on eBay, twice, and the second time started the listing at $1. It was listed in antique books and political memorabilia and got plenty of hits. Final selling price... $1, to a collector in Oklahoma. Lesson learned.

I agree that unless the politician is a household name, very few people care. Even less are willing to pay a premium for a toilet seat with coins embedded in it.

If you collect coins, that seat is pretty funky. To non-collectors - it's worthless. Why not just install the thing and do your "business" on it?

Talking about coins inbedded in toilet seats, in 1962 when I was courting my wife,in Los Angeles,I would occasionally take her to the Roaring Twenties and Gay Nineties on the La Cienega restaurant row. The Gay Nineties had a long bar that was inbedded with 100s, if not 1000s of BU Morgan Dollars. It later became Mickey Finns of TV fame and I have no idea of what became of it. Maybe some of you in Los Angeles know.

PS: Before I met my wife I use to date a girl that was a waitress at the Roaring Nineties that use to slide down the firepole when the whistle blew. Such beautiful legs she had, it still POs my wife that I knew her!
