  The difference is that's what they now call a gold coin graded 10 years ago as VF-35!

  They're the same thing. I've used both, but have leaned toward XF.

  EF: Extremely Fine, a numismatic word.
  XF: Extra Fine, a philatelic word.
  
  In the old days, many dealers carried coins and stamps so that the confusion started.

  As mentioned, both are practically the same and used interchangeably for coins. Pronounce them both the same (extra fine).

  I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  i use both, but the official ana grading guide specifically states that EF is correct.

  oh, also, AU = ABOUT UNCIRCULATED, not "ALMOST" UNCIRCULATED
