David Lawrence coins

He has 2 nice MS-61 PCGS grade $10 gold coins at $400 ea. think if i combined the 2 hed be able to work with me and maybe come down a little? wanted to get your opinions before i went and looked stupid. i belive it cant hurt. but i figured id ask you all first

1895 http://www.davidlawrence.com/coins/ViewCoin.cfm?Inventory=111695

and 1879$5 gold http://www.davidlawrence.com/coins/ViewCoin.cfm?Inventory=107201&auc=28&lotid=11996

785$ total. both i like and look nicer than what i see in my range. think i could talk him to $750 for both? would that be fair? comments welcomed.

the 1879 has a mintage of 301,000
and the 1895$10 is a mintage of 567,000. im looking to go as low on mintage and as high on grade as i can. i think my niche for now will be MS60+ i dont want to dabble much in AU58 unless i like the coin. you all say buy the coin not the slab and for the most part the ms grade coins look nicer. but trust me if i see a nice AU coin im jumpin on it.

Certainly can't hurt to ask! Volume buyers are always welcome, I would think.

And I've noticed that after coins have been in their inventory for awhile, they usually add an invitation to make an offer. So, it's safe to assume it won't offend them.

you can probably get 5% off by calling them. everything was %5 off for a good part of December.

I like the rating system at David Lawrence. The 1***** rating coins have always been eye popping.

Thanks for the heads up! I just bought both of them!!! Just kidding, I wouldnt do you that way... even if I wanted them.

From what I've found, David L has great customer service. It never hurts to ask, and I think your offer is fair. If they've had the two coins over thirty days, they'll probably take you up on it. If not, they'll probably take it as long as they're still making a few bucks on them. I wouldnt concider your offer a low-ball... so dont feel like you're going to "look stupid."

ya knwo they were just examples. right thats what they were. but seriously when dealing with them or JJ tea, is it normally wise to ask about things like that. if i do multiple coins? with single coins it seems kinda crude to ask cause its only one coin. but multi coins its like for 2.5% less your moving this coin and anotehr one.
well back and ask about hte coins i wanted. see what they say . im sure theyll call me tomm while im at work. the only issue is if theyd be able to hold them till friday. when i can send payment out. i know JJtea had a 7 day hold policy. so maybe david can do the same. we will see soon.

You might be surprised. If you have a conversation with them and don't ask for a discount first thing.... they might just offer one first.

Give them a call. They'll give you at least a 5% discount, and if you play up being a new customer they'll go up to around 10%.

Thanks for the friendly posts! We are always happy to entertain offers -- the more the merrier. As a rule we keep our mark-ups low which is why we don't take big counters. We have also been moving older inventory into web auctions at reserves below our cost.

atarian: Both of those coins are now sold, so I hope you were able to make a deal. If not, please try us again.

I just sold a coin that I bought from David Lawrence a couple years ago - for more than I paid for it.

Hey just to let yall know i did end up getting those 2 coins. i almost went for the 1895 and 1894 $10 but after a closer inspection there was a mark that stood out. but i hope down the road to get a 1894 which has less marks. image

I've been a DLRC customer for the last couple of years and they are the first dealer I go to. During that time, I was able to negotiate with them on some of the coins I wanted and also on some trades I was doing. Jack Robinson and now Jason are great guys to deal with, and I've always been treated very fairly even though I'm not a "high roller" on my purchases.

I found out a long time ago that it never hurts to ask the question, whether it's coin dealing or any other life experience. The old adage "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" is very true. image
