There were slabbed shiny Morgans in every direction,

but there were precious few British coins at the show I attended today.image

I did pick up a BUFL 1902 1/3 farthing and a few others small purchases that might be upgrades, but nothing before 1902. There were virtually no Victorian bronze or silver coins in high grade.

I saw an 1873 shilling that was very nearly UNC, but of course was graded and priced as UNC. There was also an MS63RB (actually full red) bun penny.

It looks like the availability of quality British coins has truly shrunk to near-zero. Heritage, here I come!

    Maybe both. image The absence of choice material drives prices higher which then frees up new material. image I've sold a few coins that I already realize I can't replace....seller's remorse...it's that kind of market. image

    I've sold a few coins that I already realize I can't replace....seller's remorse...it's that kind of market.

    So you don't feel that the British market is cooling off?

    It is a bit, but many US sellers have already sold out and they're getting nothing new. For the most part, I have only been able to find British material being sold by dealers such as NEN. The market may well have already taken care of the supply.

    There were a couple of world coin dealers I have bought some very nice coins off of in the past, including several satisfying mail order transactions. They are devoid of everything British except things like 1956 farthings.

    I also heard the same old lament from one dealer: "a friend of mine went to London to buy British coins and came back empty handed."

    agraded made a good point earlier about pricing/availability.

    By the way, so none of you waste your time next go around, the show was in San Jose, CA. I'm now back from there.
