Nice Toned Roosie. (Caution, big pictures).

In my ongoing effort to have one of every single Roosevelt Dime minted, I have come a bit closer with the arrival of my 1954, 1955, and 1959 proof coins. The 1954 and 1955 were bought Raw from E-Bay and came still inside their sealed section of the proof packaging. (I.E. I had to cut them out). The 1959 was also bought Raw and arrived inside a PVC flip. Sadly, it looks as if there is some PVC haze on the 1959. I'll have to break out my acetone and see if that will help, though I think the 'proof' luster is forever gone. The 1955 has a couple of toned spots on it that really didn't show up too well in the photos, but the 1954 proof REALLY toned quite nicely. These photos were taken VERY quickly, so I'll try and re-shoot the toned Roosie a bit later on when I get some time. The blues/reds/oranges are really neat to see, and the colors change depending on the angle. Straight on, it looks like black splotches, but as you turn the coin in the light it goes through a range of blues, reds, and oranges. My first 'real' toner. Overall, these three 'raw' coins only cost me about 20 dollars total which includes shipping. I think I did alright. (These coins are now in my Dansco album).

The 54 is nice looking. Post more pics of it when you get the chance.

As requested, some more pics of the toned Roosie.

A little nicer pic of the toned Roosie.

Same coin from a tilted angle. Shows the blues a little nicer.

A better front image. (The reverse was a bit too difficult to capture like the front at an angle. Too reflective).

I just have one question. If I were to dip my PVC hazed proof coin in acetone, will it remove the haze and hopefully bring back any shine the metal has under there still, or is it pretty much permanently damaged by the PVC? Thanks.

Hehe. Well, I bought the coin to add to my Dansco Roosevelt Set, so I would be willing to sell it provided that I was able to pick up another 1954 proof for sale. But right now I'm not quite sure. (The coin is Raw also). image
