So what's the odds of this being shilling?

Three high end coins are sold by seattle_mariners1. All three have bids on them by seasally (also from seatle?). seasally joined just 5 days ago. These are the ONLY three coins that seasally has bid on, and all the other bidding was on sports related articles (funny since the other account sounds like a sports fan).
Isn't illini75chief75 a member of the boards? Looks like he got caught. This bidding looks strange since seasally 's bids are ending in 9.99 and the "other" things seasally bid on he ended in 0.01 (looks like he is trying to loose the first one by a cent and win the others by a cent)
Also, why would seasally stop at $1,999.00? Because he saw that the other bid was less then a full bid increment more then his $1,999.00?

That was my first thought about this whole thing. People who understand human psychology and how eBay works don't bid $1999 instead of $2001 if they really intend to win the item.
However IMO the best defense against this type of activity is to snipe. If you don't snipe, you set yourself up for shilling.

I'm not sure how anyone knows what one's maximum bid is? Last I checked, you can see one's current high bid but not their maximum bid unless it has been outbid. You might be surprised at the number of times I've won an auction by less than a dollar. Does that mean I knew what someone else's max bid was and bid just a few cents over it?
It sounds like you had your mind made up already before your post asking what are the odds of the aforementioned auction being a shill job. I gave my opinion but it seems it wasn't the one you wanted to hear.

If the current bid is $325.00 and I bid $350.00 and notice that the high bid is now $351.27, I now know for a fact that that is that bidder's max bid because if his max was higher the high bid should be $355.00 ($5. increments at this level).

I have NEVER shilled nor been shilled but I have bid on auctions, higher than I normally would have (when I have seen someone who beat me on a different auction and I didn't want them to get it too cheap).
I have taken people up to what I figured their max was before just to do it
Note: If I had won, I would have paid for the item anyway as I only bid on what I am willing to pay (I just wouldn't have been happy with myself).
So, don't just jump on someone's high,but lower than winning bid, as shilling. It may be the case a lot of times, but NOT every time.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

You are correct, Joe. I had forgotten about that. But in that case, the next bid increment will have to be x dollars over the high bid amount and it could be a potential buyer doesn't want to go any higher. That's stopped me from bidding further a few times on TT, Heritage and eBay even though the high bid was in sight.

"seasally" is a big time Michigan fan who obviously has money to blow on Rose bowl tickets (MI vs. TX.) & parade tickets.
"seasally" has been a member since 12/14/01 & might have just realized that you can get good deals on coins on eBay.
I've been an eBay member since 2/13/00 and just started buying coins last year.

Have you tried reporting this to ebay? They could possibly do something about it! We can't!!
Maybe it's buyers remorse. She won the coin on Dec-19-04 and "seattle_mariners1" relisted it 11 days later on Dec-30-04.
Who knows how many e-mails were sent between the two during that 11 day period. My guess, they made a deal and he relisted it.
Now if "seasally" bids on his auctions again, then the alarm bells will ring!

Oh, in case you are wondering, I work for a brokerage firm where it is my job to notice patterns in trading data to catch employees making suspicious trades. So maybe I am just paranoid.
