Newbie interested in getting inventory for ebay auctions

What is the best way to purchase inventory for sale? I live in a population of around 150,000. Would a small BUYING COINS ad in the wantads draw out much activity? Or am I wasting my time and money? There is one coin store in the mall and I don't know how well he does.

This is a general question about how to start a coin business.......hence my asking it on this board. I also put a more specific post on B/S/T.

I would say this doesn't belong here but on the b/s/t forum.

Be very careful of putting an ad in the paper, there are lots of nuts out there.

You'll get lots of calls about "silver" pennies and rare Peace Dollar errors where the U in TRUST looks like a V.

But still think this belongs on the BST Board. Thought this place was just for dicussig coins from the US. Being kind of new to the house have to learn the rules. But we all probably did the same thing at one time or the other.
BTW welcome aboard and good luck.

Agreed, probably better on the BST. One other bit of advice - don't ask for free flips. You will learn why eventually. image

cary1952, a small buying ad can be a good source of finding coins. However, you may have to run the ad for many weeks or months before you get a big enough deal to pay for the cost of the ads. It's a calculated risk.

Another option that you should consider is to just start buying at coin shows or from your local dealers. Cherrypick them, if possible, and then sell the coins on eBay. I know others who buy good deals on eBay and then sell those coins on eBay. Of course you have to be a coin shark to pull that off. Just ask Russ or Marty.
