Help With 1913-S Half Eagle

image This coin looks better to me than it's stated grade of AU-55? I now nothing about these and wonder what you guys think? Sellers asking $475. I know golds hot right now. I searched Auction Sites for prices of these in this grade and came up with the highest price of $318 on 11/13. The other coins I saw weren't even close in luster and quality like this one. Thanks for the help!!!!! Lee

55 looks about right given the wear on the eagle's wing.

It might very well be a 55..although 58 will be as high as it can get. There is clear wear on the eagle's shoulder.

Regardless, it looks like a nice coin and if it truly has luster in the fields (can't tell from the pic) I'd buy the coin immediately...since it's a 13-S. image

55 looks about right, maybe dipped 'cause it's kind of bright and clean (but not a detraction and not uncommon) for a 55 but they are asking moon money for these indians right now. Very nice date but pricey considering you could get a low ms saint for the same money but the saints will never be as beautiful to me as the indians. Also note the rim damage at 9:00 and an interesting crease along 2:00 to 4:00 on both sides of the coin. Remarkably clean face, nice feet on the eagle, nice headband, good luster on his breast plate and a firm strike so, pretty nice piece all-in-all. I just paid moon money for a 1912 61 ngc half eagle but I just had to have it so enjoy your newp but be careful...these things are worse than Morgans in terms of getting addicted!

    There's way too much wear on the eagle's wing for a 58. It's a 55 or even a 53.

I sold an AU-55 for $335 in June. It might not have been as nice as yours, though (or maybe I sold it too cheaply).
