Looking for Numismatic Books

keojkeoj Posts: 1,052 ✭✭✭✭
What good reference books would people recommend on the following topics:

- Large Copper Cents
- Seated Halves
- Seated Quarters
- Bust Halves
- Vermont/NJ/etc. Copper Coinage

Second part of the question:

- Is there a dealer that sells them or does one need to search through auctions, etc.

Thanks!!!!

For seated quarters, get the following in the following order:

    Briggs comprehensive encylcopedia
    Eliasberg catalog, April 1997
Gobrecht Journal collective volumes (4 of them)
    Fractional Money (Neil Carothers)

The usual book dealers can help you out (they're listed in the back of Coin World every week).

Yes. I bought a book from him more than twenty years ago, and won't try that again, but he's still advertising in CW.

United States Large Cents 1793 - 1814 by William Noyes about $140 on secondary market or ne bundled with his other book $180 new.
Penny Whimsy by William Sheldon about $50 Do NOT get the 1990 edition. Find an older one secondhand.
The Cent Book by John Wright $100 sometimes on ebay cheaper. I bought one on eBay for $40.
United States Large Cents 1816 - 1839 by William Noyes $100 new or bundled with the other for about $180. (That price is from memory. May be higher.

Breen and Sheldon books are widely available.
    Noyes books try Charlie Davis
Wright and Grellman books are available from the authors, might also try Charlie Davis or abebooks.com or other numismatic lit dealer
    Wiley-Buggert I don't know
Briggs is fairly available from Numismatic lit dealers
