Now that I'm in good with the bank......

what should I be after?

A few questions about coins from the bank...

What seems to be the most difficult coins to get out of them that offer the greatest find?

What seems to offer the most finds when picking?

How about bags verses rolls, any advantage?

Or is it just a waste of time?

Thanks,
Randy

I've never had success search coins from banks. While others seem to get a kick out of finding a couple 40% halves in $200 worth of rolls, it just doesn't get my pulse going. Maybe someone else who likes searching varieties, etc. will be able to give you better direction.

See if they've got a mint sewn bag of silver dollars hidden away in the back of the vault - make sure they're silver - not Ikes, SBA's or Sacs image

You're not going to find much of anything that's worth a lot of money. Yes, you'll find the
accassional 20 or 30 dollar coin, but these will be seen only infrequently. With diligence
you can find a few higher priced ones but it's not a cost effective way to build a collection
    of most coins.

This isn't to say there's nothing rare in circulation. Indeed, some of the best coins available
are available here and nowhere else, but they don't command much in the way of premiums
    now.

The best bet is to simply start collections and see what you can find. In a short time it will
be obvious what's scarce and what's common. Watch for differences on the coins and read
    the literature that's available.

I'm pretty partial to the quarters since there seems to be such a wide array of coins that
can actually be found. It's not difficult to find fans of the other denominations though.

If you enjoy looking at circulated coins, you can get rolls of halves and find some silver ones once and awhile.

I prefer looking through cents and nickels. I seem to find more errors, old coins, and world coins. I have found very few varieties and even those were not worth much, but it's a great way to relieve stress, even if the "finds" are worth little premium over face value.
