Both for me seem pretty much out of touch.

I have a nice set, but could use more than a few upgrades.

IMHO,the AU raw set would be harder.

Especially if you had to find them being sold as AUs and not as overgraded MS coins. image

I voted the slabbed MS64 red would be the most difficult to complete. A slabbed full red set oppossed to a raw mostly red set, I would go with full red being much more difficult to complete, hands down.image

Some of the memorials would be pretty tough in AU but the set is doable probably.

I am sure it can be done. but a nice CH AU set, with some original Red, would be a bear to put together.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

I defy you to show me a raw "CH AU with some original red" S-VDB. They've all been slabbed.

True. I'd guess the same for 1914-D, too. That's why I figured a raw, choice AU set with red would be tougher. Those two coins are stoppers when raw.

I have a raw 1914-D,that has RED in it.It is IMHO XF/AU and PCGS refused to slab it because of color.image

Putting together a AU set together can be done. The hard part isnt finding choice AU's. The hard part is finding choice sliders that are actually graded as AU. I'd guess that four out of five sliders that I see at shows are overgraded as MS63 or MS64. Finding them isnt a problem. Finding them GRADED RIGHT is a problem.

It's very easy to make a slabbed coin into a raw one.

You are right all it takes is a small hammer.

Putting together the slabbed set where the coins all really are full red (and really near gem) is the hardest choice!

Given the checkbook to do the second, it would be cake. Could be done in three days time if one were allowed to choose which three days. Quality might come up a bit short, though. image

Choice, problem-free raw sliders are nuts, unless you're willing to fork over MS63-MS64 prices...as others already noted, that's what they'll be sold as.

At least a whole year and a half passed (at least fall 2002 to Apr 2004) without a single 64rd 18-d Lincoln for sale in any major auction or dealers' inventory. But then came along a few entire 64rd and better sets for auction. (I guess there could have been an ms65rd for sale in that time span). I think the other Roger (not RELLA) has the record for quickest completion of an MS Lincoln Set (Roger's Coins in the all-time registry list). He finished it very quickly as to have all the Lincoln Registry Sets done, and then sold his sets.
