There are some awesome cards over at the new Leland's Auction including a PSA 1 Honus Wagner. Amazing auction! Why haven't I seen this advertised anywhere?

are there ever any deals to be found in the high end auctions? seems like the nice stuff always goes for far more than anticipated. i'd imagine some of the lots could be broken up and sold to a secondary market for a nice profit...but only those with deep pockets can enter that game.

Actually a lot of the mid-range regular issues cards from the 1950s (i.e. 1951 bowman, 1952-1958 topps) all have been strong lately, but with Lelands, Memorylane, Mile High, Grey Flannel, etc. all running auctions at the same time, there are plenty of good deals to be had!

Now it looks like there are a lot of deals in this auction, especially with the Mastronet auction running concurrently. It may be the one opportunity in a long time to get high-end vintage cards for under the 150% of book they go for in Mastro. Just look at these 1952 Topps that are being auctioned off. There is a Mathews 8 there that is a $20,000-25,000 card and it stands at only $8,000 with 5-6 days to go. I'm sure it'll go for at least twice that amount, but it will still go for under the $30-35,000 that it would go for on Mastronet.

Only a card like the Wagner could look good and be so bad with respect to condition!

While in school, back in 1975 or 76, I went to a show with my best friend in NYC...there were quite a few tables and some really sharp stuff. My friend collected coins and I liked sports cards. I knew absolutely nothing about vintage cards and was strictly a modern collector. There was a guy with a Wagner card under a glass top that had a 1500$ price tag!!! Me and my friend Andy looked at it and walked away and started to laugh...what jerk-off would pay that much money for a card that looks like sh!t! I guess, today, we know who the jerk-off is?
