For the right price, I'd go for it. Don't think I'd go too much higher than $500, but...

I say crack it out, scratch it, write your name on it with a sharp metal object, bend it, and finally drill a hole in it. Send the it back into ANACS and see how they describe it then! They might even need to use the reverse to list all of the problems.

One of our board members....Airplainenut I believe...got about 6 or seven different kinds of damage written on one holder by ANACS.

That might be fun. I'd want a low-value coin, preferably a big one where you can do more types of damage on parts of the coin...say an AU Ike.

Then do everything to it. Clean it. Hole it twice and plug one of them. Whiz it. Scratch graffiti in to a field. Pour acid on it. Artificially tone it. Bend it a little bit. Re-engrave some hair into Ike's head. Let's see if we can set a record for most types of damage noted on an ANACS slab.

Nothing less than AU details, net AG-3 is good enough. And the funny thing is, it would be such a novelty that you'd certainly raise the price someone would pay for the coin compared to a typical, common AU Ike.

Definite buy at <$150! Dip and strip, then Shake in hot minced unions. Heat her up. Then I suggest a fine spray of paint on the edges with 1967 Pontiac Firebird firemist blue. Sonically seal in holder and eBay that baby with no returns if holder opened. Charge $8.95 shipping and 5% return fee too. You'll get rich.

6 things, I believe... and there are several more that did not make it onto the label. Braddick has been trying to get SEGS to do something similar, but his efforts have been fruitless, thusfar...

Well what is the record? I have some 4 problem specials that might be strong downgrade candidates with some added AT, etc. But all I can get from a bust half is rim filed, whizzed, repaired and reengraved. They left out "plugged and questionable toning" to rob me! I bet early copper gets has more potential.

Wouldn't it be difficult to re-sell a problem coin like that? Go for it if you plan on keep it for life.

Whizzed! You don't know what whizzed means? Like Gee Whiz or whizzed in the great outdoors?

That's your homework. Like they used to tell us, go look it up and write a 500 word essay on whizzing as it relates to Numismatics.

Plugged, repaired, re-engraved, whizzed....man, the ole girl's had a rough life yet even with all that she still looks good and should rightfully carry a premium. Now we also get a glimpse as to the benefits of slabbing.

Had most anyone walked into a shop and saw this lying around raw, most wouldn't have had a clue and been taken for a lot of $$$$. One of the best courses I ever took was Detecting Counterfeit and Altered US coins.

There was a point in time when "holing" coins was common practice as was cleaning. Someone went thru a lot of trouble to keep her looking decent. Personally, I like how ANACS explains what the deal is versus just being chunked in a Bodybag.

Should I spring for this?
