Well, only 6 of those cards are graded 9 and it seems unlikely that one of them would belong to someone with little feedback and even less history of selling things. Kind of a big step up to go from small potatoes to a PSA 9 Ruth. But the bidding is spirited and with this much $$ at stake, I sure hope some of the bidders have grilled him.
I sent him the ol' "I live on the east coast, I'm a dealer who travels alot. If I win these cards I would like to pick them up." email. Will see what he says.
Well he just sent me two emails. The first said he only ships via registered insured mail. Then he said: I'd advise you to place a proxy bid. 81 people are watching this auction to date.
You could congratulate him for making the sudden leap from modern autographs and cheap felt pennants all the way up to a $60,000 PSA 9 Ruth. That's quite a step up in the world.
I always scan my cards with a black background (unless it's a black card like 1971 Topps) so bidders can see the corners better.
With the '33 Goudey holders and their frosted plastic surrounding the card window, it does sort of look like an SGC gasket when the background is black. It doesn't make any sense to take a PSA flip for a genuine '33 Ruth (which it is) and put it on an SGC holder. Why bother, if you've got the scan of the PSA Ruth to begin with?
Here's another perspective: The Babe Ruth master and basic set registries have a total of 4 members. Neither Fogel, Branca, Louchios nor Levy have this card in PSA 9. But this guy does. Ohhhhhhh-kay....
I'm kinda curious why none of the half-dozen PSA 9's are in the Ruth registry. Maybe they're in the '33 Goudey registry.
From my limited experience i see that the card and the holder are 2 different things, each can be copied with 2 different url addresses. am i mistaken?
it appears to me that a raw card was placed on a holder that either has a blk pc of paper behind it or is a sgc holder.
Merging a scan of a raw card with a scan of a holder... you may be right about that. But again, why? He must have had a scan of a real PSA 9 Ruth to start with. The cert. # checks out. What's the point of layering a raw or reprinted Ruth on top of a real one?
It looks to me like the card is a reprint. Why he would stick a fake card on top of a real card (since he had the holder) doesn't make sense but that's what it looks like to me. Maybe he's come up with a holder with legit serial numbers, or made his own, and he's going to put the reprint inside.
Strong buyer of 1970 Kelloggs Football & 1971 Kelloggs Baseball and Football. Please help me find cards! I have a few hundred extra PSA graded 1971 Kellogg's cards. E-mail for price list. Looking for 1970 Topps Supers in PSA 9 too.
The same rock-the-vote bidder is bidding up several of his cards. And he has also listed a PSA 9 Ted Williams too. I think he is trying to get as much at once from his scams and then take a quick out. He will probably disapear after these auctions are done. Well at least that ID will disapear, but there is probably alreay another out there ready to start the game again.
I am looking for Nolan Ryan cards, esp. OPC and rare oddball issues, graded or not. Also I need quite a few 1956 Topps, PSA 6 or higher
Current Sets in Progress: 1956 Topps Master Set PSA 6 or better 1978 Topps PSA 9 or 10 1981 Donruss Golf PSA 9 or 10 1989 Upper Deck PSA 9 or 10 Nolan Ryan Master Set Pete Rose Master Set
here's a shocker, I asked him for a scan of the back of the card. He is unable to do it because the card is in a safety deposit box and he is unable to get to it before the auction ends.
