Is this a mint error or damage? Thoughts ?

1927 Buffalo, the obverse looks perfectly normal. There is a crack or seam on the buffalo, you can see on its leg where it appears to be pushed or smoothed over.

Was this a cracked die or damaged planchet or just something someone tinkered with? Anyone have any thoughts?

    I'm not a coin expert but I am a Toolmaker by trade and it looks like the die was split. Unless it is the lighting, one side looks shifted compared to the other. It would be nice to get a closer look around the 'L'.

    Cracked planchet. Nothing to do with the die.
    Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

    It looks like there is (unrelated) counting wheel damage though: check the outer circumference of the reverse, just a little in from the rim. It is especially seen in the top lettering.

    You are correct about the damage. But it's probably from a coin wrapping machine.
