I may be the only one, but isn't it time that the government starts looking into fly-by-night grading services. They got on PCGS's backside about value in the past, these TPG guys exist solely to rip people off.

Remember it's not how you pick your nose that matters, it's where you put the boogers.

Yeah but the price is only 4.25 right now. I don't think he's going to get close to the 100 thats marked on the slab. Must be a big disappointment for sellers like this.

There's also an Island Rarities that's affiliated with one of the other wonderful TPG's - NTC. Also in Florida. If I were NGC, I'd seriously consider moving out of that state. It's infested with con artists.

Apparently this grading service doesn't know about the SMS coins yet. They saw a slippery looking nickel and automatically assumed it was a proof. That's what's really interesting about the SMS coins, though. Their condition is all over the place. They can vary from a low grade MS to a high end PFDCAM. It shouldn't go for $100. That's not to say that someone with a bit more money than brains won't come along and snap it up. MS67 is actually a low grade for an SMS coin. Unless it's a CAM or a DCAM, it's pretty common.

How come 90% of these sleazes are in Fla?

Because there's so many old geezers here in Florida... I mean... I doubt these guys set-up only to rip people off online... I bet they get more of their business ripping off little old ladies with a storefront... it would be interesting to see if there are any trends on the amount of scammers from Florida over the months... I bet, if you could graph it out, there would be a steep rise approaching the winter months, and then a steep decline in Springish-time...

Do you really want the government involved? As all of the grading services emphasize, grading is an opinion. I wonder just what would happen to numismatics if a government bureaucrat became the US grading czar.
Would collectors feel good about submitting to a bureaucrat? I don't think so.
    All glory is fleeting.

I emailed the seller early this afternoon. I asked him if he realized his prize slab was bogus. No response of course. What amazes me is that he brags of selling in a major publication. What the heck is he thinking? image

PLEASE leave the government out of this! Why do so many people feel that the government needs to always be there t watch over them like the proverbial ewish mother so that they don't have to grow up and take responsiility for their own decisions.
