You can buy the coin for $33, or for an extra $16.95 it comes in a cardboard box that lights up when you open it.

I think that is an eyesore...and the blue...it looks like a cheap plastic package from the image - whatever it is made of. Contrary to earlier stated positions - Edison did not single-handedly create General Electric. Are there many "125th" anniversary commems?

No sir, that is 100% pure cardboard, how else could the mint keep the price of the box under $17?

Pay 16.95 extra, get a cheap cardboard box, an LED bulb and a watch battery, all worth about a buck, if that. That just screams bargain to me.

The mint should stick to selling raw coins and leave the pathetic packaging to third party resellers like HSN.

well, it is better than spending $120 or whatever the L&C coin and pouch was issued for - at least you can keep the Edison in the box for a little while....well it is cardboard so it really is not so good at all as even acid free paper and boards become acidic...but tanned leather? Insane! Wonder how the accelerated tests are coming on the wooden PCGS boxes.......

The cheezometer is screaming. Years down the line, a premium for one with a battery that still has juice? Ridiculous! I bought my "light bulb dollar" because I was sure nobody would want one. 125th anniversary! Light Bulb! Come on! This just goes to show they aren't having an easy time selling them...

Sigh.

Did I mention the $17 box lights up?

They say to remove the battery for long term storage. It looks like it has a sensor in upper left corner, so the light would only come on when the box is opened, but like the light bulb in the refridgerator, it's hard to tell. But I covered the sensor and the light stays on, so maybe mine's broken.
