Gobrecht Registry Set

Well, kind of! It's not actually a distinct set in the Set Registry [yet! image ] but it is in the Redbook. At the ANA I acquired the last coin I need to complete my Redbook Gobrecht set:

Coin #1: 1836 Name under Base. ex: Eliasberg. PCGS PF65. A beautiful coin with hard, deep mirrors and light iridescent grey toning. Extremely rare variety with perhaps a dozen or so known.

Coin #2: 1836 Name on Base, Issue of 1836. PCGS PF64. Super PQ with light iridescent golden toning. Only a few stray hairlines prevent the gem grade. Outstanding eye appeal. Original mintage 1,000.

Coin #3: 1836 Name on Base, Issue of 1837. PCGS PF65. One of the nicest Gobrechts of any date/variety I've ever seen. Beautifully toned in person, with very deep mirrors and not a single distraction. Original mintage 600.

Coin #4: 1838 Name removed from Base. ex: Amon Carter. PCGS PF64. Stunningly toned mainly in blue on the obverse and iridescent rainbow colors on the reverse. A few lines on the reverse prevent the gem grade, but the mirrors are hard and deep and the eagle cameo.

Coin #5: 1839 Name removed from Base. ex: Norweb. PCGS PF65. Absolutely original, though slightly dark, multicolored iridescent toning graces near perfect surfaces. Original mintage 300.

  • Yikes! Those look so nice... It is really something to view photos of a bunch of coins I've never seen together. Those are some neat dollars.
  • TRADEDOLLARNUT, you make me ill. I would have to say my favorite coin of ALL time, is your 1870-S Dollar. Put me in your family gifting trust. I do dishes and vaccuum well.

    TDN,

I agree with your assessment, coin #3 has got to be one of the nicest Gobrecht's that exist. Nice job!!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!

The problem with making a Registry set for these beauties is that they are a mix of regular issue and pattern issue. However, these 5 are the coins listed in the Redbook so I chose that as my set. I love this series!!!!!!!!
