Cracking slabs?

Someone asked me in an earlier post if I was thinking of cracking out a specific coin from a proof set. This brought to mind a question as to what is the safest (for the coin primarily and me secondly) method of freeing a coin from a mint case or a slab?

I think I have the early 60's figured out....cut the cellophane with scissors

try slow pressure increases with a bench vise,and rotate the holder.
vise,slow pressure,audible crack,rotate the holder,repeat.

Press blade of pocket knife into seam until it penetrates and then pull it aroung the whole case while keeping blade inserted in seam. Takes about 10 seconds!....Ken
