This Strikes Me As Odd and Somewhat Perplexing

I had this coin close on eBay yesterday. Check out the date/grade and then the price:

Now, check out this lot that closed earlier this afternoon. Again, check out the date/grade and the price:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3922963061&ssPageName=STRK:MESO:IT

I have a speculation as to why it played out that way, but would love to read your take on it.

Uhm... needs a dip and resubmit on #2? #2 looks like it would DCAM without the haze in the fields...

The second coin looks DCAM under the frost, at least in the picture--someone's banking on an upgrade and the designation on a crack/dip/resubmit.

The reverse on the first one hardly looks cameo in your photo. Both sides of the hazy one look DCAM. I'd bet the winner of the 2'nd one is betting a crack, dip and resubmit will garner at least 66 DCAM.

    How about this...

There is no reason. The auctions and their results are completely unrelated. Such are the vagaries of eBay sales.

Hey Pat, is this some kind of cheap marketing ploy! image

No ploy David, (I get the winkie) but I suspect it is more fun to dream of the possibility of a crack out and upgrade than it is to simply "buy the coin".

Coins can be fun but the Coin Game is a lot of fun too!

Hmmmmmm, seems to me that everybody who has responded to this thread cares. If you don't like moderns, that's fine. But you can stop writing little juvenile comments in threads about moderns....

    Joe,

I'm doing pretty good. I've got a good job now, and I've got a great family. I'm truly blessed. I've not been as active with coins as I have been of late - but I still enjoy them immensely! These boards are a great place to learn.

    Thanks very much for asking!
