1909s $10 Ind. grade opinions please

I have some investment coins purchased from Bruce Amspacher in 1985. This $10 Indian came from the Dr. Jerry Buss collection. Grade opinions appreciated.

A guess would be MS64 [light lines on the cheek & hit on the chin]. However, off a scan a guess is as good as it gets.

Edited to add: the coin is growing on me, I like it!

I'd give it a 65, but wonder if that scratch on the cheek and the nick on feathers is noticable at the normal size.

I would guess MS63+, unless that's a hit I see on Liberty's chin, or AU58 rub in the hair. Even with the hit on the chin, I would say MS62, if it weren't a slider.

Mind you, that's just a wild guess- I'm a bit out of my depth, here. I've owned only about two or three in that grade range, and they were the only ones I've ever had.

That is a beautiful coin.

There is something wrong with the Mint Mark.....or maybe it's just the picture. There doesn't seem to be a "serif" (is that what its called?) on the bottom part of the "S".

Also, I'm fairly certain the coin is AU. But I'd have to see it to be sure.

Yeah, I agree with Jom- it's AU. There is definetly wear behind the eye and the hair curl below the B in LIBERTY. I go AU58. mike

I'm sure NGC would MS it, probably a 63 or 4 - I agree with all the wear, contact mark, hairline comments - but from what I've seen in slabs (more so from NGC) gold doesn't have to play by the rules.

All good comments on the grade. VERY NICE DATE! She shows wear and she has that chin situation but it is certainly a very beautiful coin. I have a 61 and a 63 and anything over 60 is just such a stunning coin in this issue. Well, that's why we have grading services with experts on that issue but that coin is worth what you paid for it, by definition. Thanks for a very nice pic!!!

Submit a few dozen $10 indians with wear in this area and you will see what it does to the grade. mike

Lines on the face bother me but the coin is so original I think it would grade MS-61 or MS-62.

This eagle was owned by Dr. Jerry Buss??? That's cool, I didn't know Dr. Buss collected coins (I"ve been a laker fan all my life....

)
I would guess this is a drop-dead gorgeous au58- unless the rub I see is some kind of "cabinet friction" that they allow in a MS coin.....

I scan them. This was my second time scanning coins. Still a lot to learn.

With a better image and lighting, could be as low as MS62..... probably 63 though.
