A Darkside alternative to Registry Sets...
Instead of competing with each other to build individually owned Registry Sets, some French collectors are pooling their resources to post the "Ideal Collection" of French coin images. The competition is in trying to get coins worthy of inclusion. I like this approach a lot. The Lightsiders will never go for this concept, but maybe somebody here would like to try it for another country.

Just took a nice stroll through the 2 Francs.
It would be a great project to put together a world coin type set site (or something like that) that was a constant work in progress of the forums. Between the coins here and the photography skills--I think it would be a big hit.

They even have the moderns and in grades I wouldn't have guessed existed even in the PL sets.

Come on over ... to The Dark Side!
It's also getting to the point where a date collection 1838-1970 is straining the resources...
Now how do we implement it?
Well, I have kicked it off. I just registered a domain "coinshow.org" (it is going to be showing coins isn't it?) and set up hosting with a good company. I'm good on the technical side of this stuff but I'm hopeless as far as artistic ability in creating a website design. I'm also not much of a web programmer. I don't think we need anything fancy ... an attractive design, and an easy to use navigation system. Once that is all down, it's just a matter of duplicating the design with various photos.
We do need to standardize on size of photos and such. Decide what sort of credits to give ... or to keep the whole thing anonymous. And I'm sure there will be many more things.
BTW ... the hosting also comes with 300 POP mailboxes. They will be available to anyone that is contributing to the project.
Let's talk about it!
