They had them on the display at the Portland ANA. They are really nice. Only problem is the Liberty Nickel series has 33 business strikes and 31 Proof strikes so I would need two to hold the entire set.
Collector and Researcher of Liberty Head Nickels. ANA LM-6053
These hardwood display/storage boxes feature a rich, cherry wood FINISH and are lined with black felt. Each case is intricately crafted
Please note that they say on the description, cherry finish, NOT cherry wood! I could do those with genuine cherry, or oak, or walnut, or cocobolo, purpleheart, etc etc etc....... personally I am not impressed by 'em.....

I like 'em. However, they list both boxes as having the same dimensions...which I doubt. Those of us with safes are kinda picky about actual dimensions.

The correct dimensions will be up in a little bit.
We started selling them at this last Baltimore show and we will be bringing some to the ANA show next month. As long as we have any left, we will bring them to Long Beach as well.
Those new boxes are very attractive, definately a huge step up from the blue plastic ones. I can't decide which size I like better, so I'll just have to get a couple of each :-)

Correct me if I am wrong ... does not finished/varnished/stained wood emit fumes that are not kind to coins? PCGS holders are not air tight, after all.

Good point, hmmmmm what to do what to do. Since they have the PCGS logo on them they might be endorsed by PCGS if so and my coins crud up, I can always send them back for a grade guaranty review and have PCGS pay for them since their brand of boxes caused the coins to be ruined.

Tom, they aren't that hard to do, the liner would be a bit trickier, but all in all, not all that bad. No, I don't have any pics of anything in that order, (although I could) just commenting on the price being paid for non-cherry "cherry" wood. I am a bit of a wood "purist" i.e., snob..

Properly finished and cured, there really should not be any hazards to the coins. A quality polyurethane dries with a very hard finish, which should seal the wood and any "stain" fumes. Waxed finishes would have some fumes and could cause problems, although with a proper absorbant, that would be minimal in MHO.

jhar, Purpleheart has one drawback...if exposed to much sunlight over time it will "brown" and the purple color will fade out, although it can be sanded down and expose "new" purple wood. With special finishes (pure tung oil) and care, the colors should stay fast for many years. Zebrawood would be a good choice also, and quite cool looking. Costs would be a bit more, but without the lining, using just the natural beauty of the wood with routed slots to hold the slabs, I don't see where it would be much more than half again as much. The key is to make template so one could cut out many exact size "parts" and then fit them on an as-need basis, that cuts down on labor costs. Of course with me working full time, this is my hobby, not my life, so my "labor" is cheaper.....
