I don't understand your issue with this...he clearly states there are a handful of these left in pristine condition image

Maybe he meant to say they are in "pressed-on" conditionimage

He'll need to drop the grade a half a point from all the handling he has done by the time he ships it out!!

I was just making a joke with the above statement yall!
  • I don't see how fingering/handling a VF circulated coin isn't going to hurt it any more than it already has in life already.
So I don't consider that a big issue.
In the worst case though, a bit of acetone would remove any skin oils that might cause future problems.
besides the old dirt and grease and oil on the coin would eventually be a lot worse on it corrosion-wise.

    my comment to him

you turned off an awful lot of serious buyers by getting your prints all over the coins like that

    his reply

Thanks for the advice. As you can tell, I am a bit of a rookie at this coins business.
Thanks again, and good luck bidding.

As criminal is at is the hold a coin that way, remember that this piece is circulated--it didn't get that wear by sitting untouched in a drawer.

Usually, only pristine MS and AU surfaces really show fingerprints--coins like this likely won't show them--I doubt his prints will ever show up on the coin.

Jeremy maybe not and I agree with you the coin didn't get wear sitting in a drawer. Handling a coin improperly shows a lack of coin etiquette and goes against my grain much the same as one who points an unloaded gun at someone. I'll tell you also if anyone who calls themselves a coin collector grabbed one of my coins in that way circulated or not I'd let them know about it real fast.

The layer f toning on the coin should probably protect it until it arrives, then a rinse in acetone and alcohol should remove the skin oils, acids, and salts that would eventually etch a print into the coin.

    Gah.

    Oh well.

It IS a nice looking coin, if Mister Fingerprints doesn't thumb it all up too badly.

Conder's comments are probably right, though- the coin's natural "skin" should protect it until it can get an acetone rinse.

Give the guy credit for taking better-than-usual pictures, though, aside from the handling.

Hey, JR- I'll bet Mint employees all have their fingerprints on file. No doubt you could find out the name of the guy who made that Ike! image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
