Is this 1898-S Morgan Slabbable

If I submitted this 1898-S Morgan to PCGS, would they slab it?
I waslooking at it and noticed the three diagonal scratches on the face of Ms. Liberty.
The rim looks good, the restof the coin looks Ok.
But those scratches might get it rejected.

That's a sure bodybag at PCGS.

VG10. They tend to be a bit more liberal on tougher dates.

I've seen 16D's and 1916 SLQ's with worse make it into PCGS/NGC/ANACS holders.
Better dates get better treatment. Its a fact.

As others have said, I think it's bodybagged.

But why would you want to slab a VGish '98-S anyway? It's worth slabbing in AU and above, perhaps, but it's not a terribly valuable date in lower grades. Or are you just curious about what would slab at PCGS?

That's not a better date in that grade. It will be bodybagged if submitted to PCGS.
  • I was thinking about building a registry of "Earl's Bottom Feeder Morgan Collection" of all VG'ish maybe up to VF'ish Morgans.
I was going through some of my old Morgans seeing what looks slabbable or not.
I thought that since, unless I win the lottery, building a MS grade set is very likely impossible.
But maybe a crappy set would be doable.
Humm maybe I need some more wine while I ponder this delimma . . .

Nah, go for it. Somebody has to collect those beat up, well worn, circulated oldies. I've been doin' it for years.

I guess you can always send it to ANACS and get a VG details, net G , scratched.
,but why send it in at all. The 1898-S is a tough date, but why send it in at grade?, unless, you want to have a Braddick special.

I think it would NG due to the scratches. It's only a $10 coin anyway.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
