Lousy BANK!

The short of it:

I went to the bank today to withdraw some cash for the weekend, Asked the teller if she had any rolls of Kennedy half dollars (maybe I should ask if they have rolls of walkers or barbers or Bust!), anyway, she asked the other tellers and one said that they had some in the "back". My teller asked how many rolls I wanted and I said if 20 wasn't too heavy for her to carry, I'd like 20 rolls. She brings them out in a bank bag, dumps them on the counter top and recounts them as she places them back in the bank bag.

I 'm all excited contemplating what I'll find when I open them, so I hurry home, dump them out on the couch and lo and behold, what do I find????

20 rolls of bank wrapped 2000 D Kennedies! AAAUUUUGGGGGGGhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Oh well, they do look nice and shiny with surprigingly no marks/hits.

The kids at the birthday party on July 10th will be surprised when a bunch of these fall out of the pinyata.

Jim

You could go to my bank right now and get $930 in Kennedys that are dog eared, no reeding on the rim, and all junk clad that came from a winning on the slots at Tunica....if that would make you any happier.

Haaaaahaaaaaaa, you guys are tooooo funny!

First, there will be SINGLE coins in the pinyata NOT ROLLS!

And, Second, At these parties, the kid usually knocks the pinyata to the ground in one piece (the string pulls from the pinyata) and the rest of the kids attack it and tear the poor thing to shreads (no coins falling on noggins).

Here's a dimented rendition of the party which you speak. Yeah, it's the worst photoshop you've ever seen. BTW, that's Russ's Icon falling out of the pinata. image Not that you had a bag of Proof Kennedys.

No offense regarding PCGS being the slab-pinata. If people made pinatas of things they hated, why are there teletubby Power Ranger, and scooby doo pinatas at parties?

    Don't answer that.

My bank doesn't have any halves at all. I went in once to try to get $10 worth of nickels (yes, just 5 rolls), and they didn't have them! They were only able to give me 4 rolls, and another 4 rolls of pennies.

Uhh, because people make piñatas out of stuff they hate? C'mon! I can stomach Scooby Doo for short periods of time, but... the Teletubbies? WHACK!! The Power Rangers? POW!!

You made a mistake though, the kid with the bat has to be blindfolded.

    K6AZ,

If I'd had used another "specific" grading service, (not gonna name names), then the kid would've been blindfolded.

Jeez. Sorry to hear of your bad luck! Best advice I can give is to make the best of it and hopefully you can pull some good 2000-D's out of your "hoard". Out of all the halves I have gone through over that past month, the 2000-D's are probably the crappiest looking coin to come out of Denver in a long time. The planchetts are paper thin and finding one without scratches and nicks is next to impossible!
I have run across several 2001-D, 2002-D and even a 2004-D. Again, nothing really good though, just shiny purty coins!

The best way to pull silver from halves using this method is to have them order them for you in a $500 box. If you get real gutsy, ask for a $1000! Then your only problem will be in returning them all! The last bank I went to charged me $10 just to send them through the counting machine! Oh well, the 3 walkers, 1 franky, 5 1964 and about 2 full rolls of 40% coins made it worth while ! imageimage
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I got 2 $500 boxes. The first sucked so bad I figured it had to be a fluke so I ordered a 2nd - from a different bank 15 miles away no less. The second sucked worse than the first.

Total "score" was about $4 in silver and $8 in 40%.

Speaking of Circulated Silver Kennedy Half Dollars...what the hell do you do with them once you have them?

I couldn't even sell them for their silver value on Ebay?

    Who buys them?

    I've got 15 1964s and 17 1965+ and I couldn't get spot from them on Ebay.

Anyone want to buy them from me?

    Au contraire!

If that's the case, mine must have been the first out of the press and been transported on a velvet conveyor, as a matter of fact, the cleanliness of the fields and crispness of the devices elicited a "WOW, niiiice" reaction from me at first glance.

I'd guess they'd sell on E-Bay for close to melt including S&H. Did you start the auction at too high a price (so that S&H would make the total cost over bullion)? Maybe you should think of starting an auction at 1 cent for your lot of silver. Sure, with shipping you won't get the true melt value, but you'll do a bit better than 50 cents each!

Once the silver has been culled out, bring the remaining halves to a casino that has 50¢ machines and turn 'em in there.
