Don't forget the 1892-s... it is much tougher than one would think to find in original AU. As we all know, uncs are probably over $20k now. How do the numbers add up for this date in AU? As of January, a total of 446 were slabbed by PCGS ranging in grade from AU50 TO 58. Figure a 25% resubmission factor and the real number is probably under 350. The number for the 89-cc is higher at 536 and the 95-o is significantly higher t 862 but those numbers probably drop too for resubmissions.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

The 92-s is indeed tough too!!! its amazing how many top registry sets have that one no better than 53.

<<Thanks, Numonebuyer. I'm using a Sony Cybershot 5 megapixel camera with audio/video/macro capability. I thought it was pretty slick, but I've not been too impressed with the results thus far compared to the pix that others take. I think I may get a different digital camera with a better lens someday, like maybe a Nikon Coolpix or that Fuji with the big lens.>>

Even a blind man can spot most of the pix from a Sony Mavica at 1000 paces.

I borrowed an old Sony Mavica once, and it took MUCH better pictures than the newer Cybershot. The newer ones have very small, cheap lenses, IMO. Here's a rare Morgan in this grade that I took with my Sony Cybershot, which isn't too bad, and, for me, is one of my better shots. I still want to get a new one with a better lens.

I have a Mavica and in my hands its ho hum at best. I can tell Mavica pix used in eBay listings without much trouble and they usually leave a lot to be desired IMHO.

The bottom half of the obverse is really dark which is typical. Here are smoe Mavica shots from an eBay listing.

  • I really like the toning in the 1883-S NGC MS-62. The strike is also nice and sharp.

    Very nice.

All I can say is if you see any of these tough dates that we have been discussing and you need/want one you better pull the trigger right away cuz if you don't it won't be there the next day and you may have to wait a long time and pay way more the next time!!

FWIW the 1892-s in both the number 3 and number 8 current finest sets is a AU55! Shows you what a tough date in AU that coin really is.

Thanks so much to K6AZ for providing the latest pictures to this thread.

I'm very fond of peripheral toning, and when I can find them, I grab them. Here is another one of my favorites, and a date that you usually do not find with nice toning:
