Grading tips for a 61 Frankie

I'm just starting to collect a few Franklin halves. Anyone had an opinion on this 1961??
Any help would be appreciated.

It's impossible to accurately assess proof coins from images because hairlines, which are a huge factor in the grade, don't show up. That said, assuming it isn't hairlined, I'd guess about PR67.

What Russ said- also, many photographs don't show significant spotting on franklins, which can certainly affect the grade. One thing that's helpful, is to start looking at as many holdered coins as possible in person- that way you can start to figure out what small imperfections caused the deductions in points. Just don't look at too many in gold pci holders or sgs holders, because those won't tell you anything...

You are SO right Russ (no duh, hey?).

I've been working my way through my 50s Frankie proofs and it's oh so hard to tell with out a good look under strong light to assess the hairline damage.

Damn those hairlines! Almost all my Frankie proofs were fairly hairline free, except for my earliest (1952), it was fairly hairlined, especially on the bust.

On a side note. Only about 1/2 a dozen of all the coins in my 50s proof sets (52-59) seemed worthy of grading (or at least without some dipping

I also had one Cameo! Yay! a 1953 Roosie...it'll be sent in soon enough.
