Greenville Show, Is this Toned one NT?

MrSpudMrSpud Posts: 4,499 ✭✭✭
Hi,
Me and MrsSpud went to the Greenville coin show today. It was small but the dealers were very friendly and helpful and the coins were nice. We even got to meet the guy who runs Cheapslabs.com. He said they are going to update their website to a new format that, along with other things, will allow him to post pictures. We picked up several upgrades for our Nickel and Dime collections and also picked up a few other coins that caught our eyes. One of the things I picked up was a toned Morgan that was in an American Savings and Loan holder (appears to be some kinda promotional item the bank had used at one time). I picked it up off of the Cheapslabs.com table. He had about 5 different ones in the same holder, all darkly target toned, apparently from the American Savings and Loan Holders. They looked neat, but I don't know if this is considered to be NT or AT. Here are a few quick pics that I took of it. Anyone care to give an opinion?
Thanks,
MrSpud

The toning looks okay to me. It will be nice when he updates his website to include pictures. Allot of times, I will not buy because he does not have pictures. Although, when I have bought from him, I have been delighted with the purchases.
  • Toning looks ok to me !
umm, american savings and loan out of Arizona, didnt the chairman do some serious jail time for bilking old people ?
think that was a giant fed bailout by the resolution trust corp.
probably gave the blue hairs a Morgan for buying 10 k in junk bonds !

Toning is nice, but dark -- may get BB for environment damage if submitted, but 100% NT. Those holders toned up a bunch of Morgans and Peace $.

Cool NT coin...it looks like it is housed in one of those tidy house holders. What cardboard holder is it in?

The toning is a slight bit lighter than in the pic with the darkest parts being blue where in the pic it almost looks black. Here is a quick pic I took of the cardboard holder. Sorry about some of it being out of focus. Basically it says "Compliments of American Savings & Loan Association" "Uncirculated U.S. Silver Dollar" "Offices Home Office: 3839 Buffalo Speedway Tel.: 524-1871 River Oaks: 1947 W. Gray Downtown: 1010 Louisiana Memorial: 602 Memorial City Sharpstown: 7080 Southwest Freeway Dairy Ashford: 14606 Memorial Dr." and "Houston, Texas".

So, since it is already a bit dark do you think I should remove it from the holder it is in so it won't tone more? If I put a different coin in do you think it would tone too?

I would remove it. It'll only likely get darker. As for another coin, try it. It might take 20 years, but hey what not.

I like the look, but I also agree with Frattlaw- leaving it in the holder any longer will not improve the appearance of the toning.... image

I just did a quick search on coin shows in Greenville and found a vague one that said "Summer. Greenville. Parker Coin Show" and another one that said "October 29, 30 and 31, 2004 Greenville, South Carolina -South Carolina Numismatic Association -Crowne Plaza Hotel -I-385 at Roper Mountain Road Greenville, South Carolina"
