Need advice on possible new die marriage of 1795 half dollar

LanLordLanLord Posts: 11,723 ✭✭✭✭✭
I picked up a 1795 half dollar this afternoon.

It has a die marriage that I can't identify in the 3rd revision of Overton's catalog.

Star 1 on obv is in contact with the lower curl on two points, star two is connected to the second curl by either a thin
strand of hair of a die crack. There are faint whispy die cracks connecting stars 4, 5 and 6 then to the rim.

The lower seriph of the E in liberty appears recut, stars 12 and 13 are connected by a whispy crack.

On the rev, there are 10 berries on the left, 7 on the right. A thin die crack from the left wing to the rim between

I and T. The seriph on the left leg of the M in AMERICA is recut, and the C appears to have a straight die crack

closing it internally (this is a thin whispy crack).

This doesn't match any of the die marriages in my Overton catalog. I'll try to get pics to post, but the die cracks are
so faint, I don't think that they'll show in a picture, they require 10X mag to see correctly.

How would I go about submitting this and to whom?

Oh great, here we go again. First Baley, now you. image You might want to link a PM to Nysoto. He's a very knowledgeable guy on these things. And a heck of a nice guy willing to share his input.

Oops. looks like some of the pics didn't do what I wanted.

    I'll try to fix that.

    Wow, super nice coin!

It looks at first glance like an O.105, but first glances can be deceiving image

Wow, not sure how I missed that, it may be, I thought I looked at the reverse C and ruled it out due to the berries, but it has the correct count and orientation. I'll take a closer look, but at first glance, that may be it.

    Thanks.

Anyone wanna offer a grade on it? I'm not too good with these oldies, just want to see if I'm in the ballpark with my WAG

Oh, I'd say it makes VG10 easily, and is probably a full Fine.

I'll agree with the O.105 and VG10+ verdict...

It appears to me to be O-105. Th berries and leaf positions appear to match Rev C and the obverse is Obverse 3. The only oddity I see is what looks like a raised lump outside the wreath and below the pair of leaves below A2.
