How does one go about cashing in bulk silver

My dad accumulated quite a pile of silver through the years. Back in the 60's until the mid 70's when the stuff finally disappeared from circulation my dad would bring home a small pocket full of silver everyday and save it. He and his co workers went out for coffee everyday and any silver he got he kept and any his coworkers got in change my dad would exchange in face value and give them the new clad or whatever it took to exchange. As I said over the years he accumulated quite a pile that sits in a safe deposit box and he told me it would take two people to move it if he got it out. He missed out on the big jump in silver 20 something years ago because of bad advice that the stuff would jump even further and he's still kicking himself for not selling it off. I'm now urging him to get rid of it because it may not go any higher than what it is now. He told me he'd let me pick through what I want for bulk price and I'd say there may not be a whole lot since it's all circulated stuff. Anyway I've told him to try ebay. If he goes this route should he sell it in lots of face value? Like $20 lots? Or advertise in weight? Are there other options where he could get rid of it all because he acts like he doesn't want to deal with the shipping and auction process. If anyone knows options of cashing this in as bulk silver or where to go it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
