Stupid photo question

I've been browsing through the archive threads on coin photos, but haven't really seen what I'm looking for. I know that the message board requires uploaded photos to be 50KB or less, and I was trying to resize a photo to that dimension- so the question is that I have to try and size it down to a 2x1 inch size approximately to get within 50 KB. So how do we get these big, glorious pictures in these threads with 50 KB or less?? I'm feeling digitally stupid, and any insight is appreciated...

I'm using the image resize on a photoimpact program I have- why would the type of program matter when it comes to resizing the photo?? image

Just get someone to host them for you for free!!! See this thread Free pictures I use photobucket. Really easy to use, just upload the picture to them and use the link they give you to copy and paste to your thread. It's great!!!image

Its the compression of the file. Adobe photoshop file-save for the web works pretty well. I can get to about a 800x800 .jpg to 50kb or less with it.

    What Dork Girl said.

    Use Photobucket.com!
  • Also, save the pic as a JPEG. This will also reduce the size!image

Strange... I went to look at the properties of one photo after I had converted it into a jpeg, and it was only 40KB. I didn't know that jpeg-ing it would reduce the file size... image

JPG can compress a photo from 2 Meg to 50K without much loss of detail. Also, the 50K limit is only for photos hosted by the board. If you have another place for storage, there's no limit.
